PRESENTATION SCHEDULE

You know what happens when you get delusions of grandeur? It back fires on you. 9 times out of 10. Yeah, so I apologize for how wonky this presentations thing has gone. I have decided to make this simple and just divide everyone that is left.

Thursday, March 27th
Megan Williams
Kelyn Ikegami
Brittany Vance
Alexis Romero
Drew Tekulve
Lauren Heperi

Thursday, April 3rd
Ethan Smith
Peter Walton
Kari Mortenson
Caitlin Strattom
Emily Bade
Collin Barkdull

Have your presentations ready! Remember, under 5 minutes, just a brief overview of the site you have chosen, and don't be afraid to "geek out" if you want. It's ok to get excited about the idea of London, and Summer, and all things hot...

Where were we? Oh yeah! See you in class this week!

Presentations for 3/20

Here's the schedule for this week's batch of presenters.

Marina Polonska
Amanda Barwick
Libby Frame
Malori Bigler
Tree Yager

I will not be there to conduct class so Dean will get to do this on his own. There are more of you who haven't signed up yet, and to you I shake my fist and make a threat. If you haven't signed up by the end of this week I will assign you a subject and presentation slot and you may or may not like it.

Post Mortem for 3/5

This week we had a lovely time in class admiring classic model work as well as an entirely baffling album of smallish dogs in parks. In any case, here's a recap for everyone.

Assignments:
Student Handbook Summary - please read the handbook given to all of you on the first day. You'll need to write up a one sentence summary for each section within it. THEN you'll need to set a goal for each section (i.e. how will you apply it, what will you do to use the advice given?) Type that all up and then email it Dean.

Reminders:

  • Our program's travel agent is Julianne Zarbock (and no, she is not from outer space). If you have questions about finding flights to and from London she is the woman to find. We are all individually responsible for finding travel accommodations until the evening of the 24th of June.
  • Could everyone please double check if they are financially up to date? It would be very embarrassing if we get to June and you still haven't paid for the program. And we would all laugh like this.
  • Make sure you get your hot little hands on all 5 books mentioned in the 498 syllabus. Just in case any of you need a refresher:
  • SCHOLARSHIP INFO for MEDIA ARTS MAJORS
    • London Media Arts Merit Scholarship - check out the TMA office, D-581, and find Renee, she'll have the paperwork for you. IT IS DUE FRIDAY, MARCH 14TH!! You might as well apply because...
Questions? Comments? Unmitigated social disasters? Shoot me or Dean or Jeff and email. THANKS!

What's up Doc?

We have a Google Doc now! Whoohoo! Yeah, that's a little too much enthusiasm about a Google Doc. Anyways, this doc is so I can get all you lovely people into an organized schedule for your presentations about London. Starting next week (Mar 13) we will have 5 people present on their chosen site in each class. This way we can expand our ideas for tourism and horizons and other expansive concepts. So, yeah, that's pretty cool.

What am I asking? Not so much asking as telling: you need to sign up quickly. Consult "THE LIST" and search, ponder, and pray about your choice then act on it! Please, please PLEASE sign up before next week so I can put together a somewhat coherent schedule for presentations. Also, sign up quickly so you can get the site you want. There are some real gems so you better jump on it.

Without further ado, I present the link for you all.

Remember: 110 Days until London!

Here Goes Nothing

Welcome to the Official Blog of the BYU Film London Study Abroad program for 2014. If this is not the program you're looking for, go look somewhere else if you please.

We had a terrific start in Prep last week. Just as a refresher; our program directors are Dean Duncan and Jeff Parkin, our TA is Hunter Phillips, and my name is Megan Williams and I'll be the student facilitator. If you've got questions, we've got answers. Or witty retorts in Dean's case.

Hopefully, all of you have been able to access the syllabi we discussed in class last week. You get to them through Learning Suite, in IAS 201R under the "Assignments" tab to the left. There are three separate syllabi there. I would highly recommend downloading all of them to keep on hand as we go throughout our prep class. In each syllabus is laid out the expectations for your involvement in this program academically (because honestly, who wants to do homework when the Globe Theatre is calling your name?) The more you can get done in the grueling three and a half months before the program the better! I'm being serious.

I will try to post reminders for assignments and projects due the coming week, whether or not this actually happens could be a matter of faith and prayer and lot's of phone reminders on my part.

Throughout our time together bonding over our mutual love of London, I'm going to be using this blog to keep everyone up to date as to what goes on during class as well as reminders. For those of you who can't make it to class regularly, stay tuned to this blog so you can get the necessary information and somehow forget to apply for a passport or don't get all your paperwork signed.

Feel free to leave any comments on any of the posts. I will try to answer them as quickly as possible in order to make sure we are all on the same page here. Questions or suggestions are most welcome.

Alright, that seems like enough housekeeping for now. I know we're all excited for this adventure. So this is where I shall put the cursory funny picture. Time for a bit of cliche.
